Voice coming out unintelligible

Umm. Don't see a way to attach an audio file. Ok. Anyway. I nabbed the program today, set it for live voice changing, loaded up Audacity, set it to record from the cable, did a normal test pattern, like I would if I was recording a video or DJing, and it came out unintelligible. I don't know if it's because I opted for a free account or what, my system specs more than match the requirements, Win 10 x64 Pro, 32gb of memory, a 1070 Ti video card, and a Xonar audio card though I record from the Focusrite Scarlett box (XLR to USB, expensive but highly recommend, )

  Update, boosted "Quality" to 50, a lot better, still not great, and it introduces a ton of lag. Is this processor bound? My CPU is a Ryzen 1700x. O.o Can't be drive bound, I installed it on the OS drive which is an SSD. Hmm...
